Lasting help comes from within

"While fixing and saving and trying to rescue is futile, radical self-care is quantum, and it radiates out from you into the atmosphere like a little fresh air. It's a huge gift to the world. When people respond by saying, "Well, isn't she full of herself," just smile obliquely like Mona Lisa and make both of you a nice cup of tea. Being full of affection for one's goofy, self-centered, cranky, annoying self is home."

Some great life observations - esp on life being a paradox, our inside selves being outside time and space and her basic operating principles for sensitive types - and above all knowing that lasting help only comes from within.

Filmmaking is all about —

"Filmmaking is all about orchestrating an accident"

It's a very unique art form that way!
Anyways if you get a chance read - "into the spiderverse" script. You will learn so much about formatting like a professional.

It is nice to learn those. But my suggestion is - formatting shld be done before submitting to anyone. When you are writing yourself, you should optimize for a mental state that is ideal for you to get max ideas and completely surrender yourself to the moment.

Writing is Rewriting. So may be 6-7 drafts before you reach the "first shareble draft" and last 1 and 2 drsfrs shld be focussed in formatting and comfort of reading.

Remember story, a lacking emotion, character underdevelopment cannot be fixed in either treatment or direction or in post.

So writing is *the most* important step. Also trust your own honest feedback to yourself. Trust your intuition.

Nitigya Character Sketch cargo

Character Sketch Nitigya Sahastrabuddhe:

If you are ever stuck in the morning traffic of a busy city street, in one of the bikes you will see a man, now on the other side of 40, with his helmet on, a black office bag and with a lunch box tied to his scooter, heading to his work. He has been doing it since before he got married and now his kids are preparing for GRE.

Though his struggle and stability is launchpad for his kids and his colleagues, he particularly doesn't aspire for anything as such. The society, however, needs these people – these pillar of strengths – though these pillars themselves might feel that they are stuck at the job but they have been feeling that for so long that they have now have even forgotten to feel that. It's too late to even restart a hobby. And they are too good to ever protest.

Nitigya is one such person. Every morning he comes to his desk, sees the list of Cargo arriving in Pushpak 634 A – one of the 1000s of spaceships and he makes sure they arrive and are successfully transitioned to the next level in the spaceship. He is not a star but his work and precision and dedication is immaculate.

Maybe his kids don't know what a hero their dad is but that's because Nitigya himself doesn't know it either. His wife complains about not having time or not going out for a vacation, and almost gives up on him and being a college teacher herself, goes for camps with college kids and he doesn't seem to mind that nor she doesn't seem to mind it anymore.

Nitigya is one of these uncelebrated heroes, a round peg in a round hole and people too humble to realize their own worth and we can only love them unconditionally because their simplicity is what we all aspire for but fail to notice.

In the film, though Prahastha and Yuvishka are in a spaceship, along with a Nitigya (in the monitor), they feel like a family living together and managing these complicated machinery.

Prahastha character sketch or early cargos

Up in the space, he remembers the early days, there were issues of gravity, issues of cold. Bad transmissions – sometimes cargo would come in parts and sometimes the extraction machine would break down leading to the cargo staying with him for days, invading his privacy and mildly irritating him while they waited for machines to be fixed.

75 years, so many cargos – he found all of them unique and all of them similar at the same time. Some would talk about regrets, some about life lessons, some would softly cry and some would break into hysterical uncontrollable laughter.

Some would pretend to be dead even when healed and some would be too scared to even move an inch.

---

Character Sketch Prahastha

It would be almost impossible to get into the mind of a man who for most part of his life has lived alone. But let's try.

Prahastha, was not like that - not living with the ghosts of real life or his past.

Prahastha grew up in a lower middle-class family where there were fights for money and there was a need to do well in life, to get out and make a better life for oneself.

Much before realizing all that -  as a 8 year old kid he was the naughtiest of all doing silly pranks– like once he had rung the bell of school too early and later gone back to wipe his fingerprints worried that school would employ a detective to catch him or another time he sent a fake love letter to neighbouring uncle and created a stir in his dull domestic household. He was one of the kids to get his powers early – his was being able to raise objects up in the air and initially he would use it to help aunties on higher balconies when they would want to buy vegetables from the street vendor and had earned free laddoos and kisses from them in equal amount.

All this banter came to a premature end when Prahastha lost his father. His mother a science teacher (in those times, education wasn't stressed on too much and very few kids even cared to study till 10th) brought him up alone and he helped her run her makeshift classes, science fairs and developed a bent of mind for science.

However, given his powers, he was best suited for army and he enrolled for the airforce. This was a tough time in the Rakshas world that was divided in tribes and each tribe would be fighting with another. Almost tired of their own fightings and with intervention from other factions, they decided to sign the Rakshas Manushya Peace Treaty and some peace prevailed. As part of the peace treaty, initially there were older rakshas who enrolled in book keeping of human souls but their work was hacky, involved transportation of cargoes and they used complicated faulty machinery to get their job done. Most of the rakshas died of shocks from these machines. Inspite of lots of protests from the conservatives, the bookkeeping continued as it became the primary source of revenue for the cash starved government.

However at the same time Prahastha was recruited for an unknown secret mission. His training with airforce along with educated background  (they said "a scientific bent of mind") was instrumental in that. He lost his mother somewhere here too and a new training would probably have given him a new lease of life so he agreed to the mission.

In the training center, he met Mandakini – a beautiful quirky psychic – she and her collleagues were also being trained for this unknown mission and it was the most beautiful part of Prahastha's life. Finding his anchor and finding the love of his life.

The psychics however in few months were removed from the training (seems like it was miscalculated that psychic would be needed for the given mission) and Mandakini along with her colleague joined a college. However, it was a moment of heart break for her, not just being away from Prahastha but also nomore a being a part of a mission that has now gathered national attention. For her – she went from being a potential national hero to a muted and restless college teacher.

As part of the training, Prahastha was then sent away for 6 months to the north pole. There conditions were simulated that were similar to space and he had to survive alone for 6 months. There were studies not only on his body but also on his mind  tests to know - if he could survive the absolute isolation.

And so he did. And it was announced that he was one of the first 6 astronauts to go up in the space. When he came back with the announcement, Mandakini got caught in one of the examinations she needed to give for her job and didn't come to see him.

This and also 100 other confusing thoughts, ego, insecurity - made him not reachout to her later when he could.

We still remember the last meeting though (it was also the first after 8 months). He was in quarantine before the launch wearing a facemask that doctors wear during operations. And there she was ushered in and could only see him through a glass and he reached out to touch her but only managed to touch the glass.

And then he left – Prahastha was one of the few people who will define the boundaries of what a rakshas could do – a pioneer – a person who would be studied in textbooks for generations to come. And in 75 years, he would be granted a retirement. And he could spent the remaining 100-125 years of his life back in planet in complete bliss.

Some would pretend to be dead even when healed and some would be too scared to even move an inch.

Every new case helped him write his thesis – now multiple textbooks and he perfected the process. Sometimes he would get a big cheque from anonymous donors or silly requests from advertising agency to talk about their toothpaste.

He would get 1000s and 1000s of fan mails, people would dress like him in Halloween and discussion would be held speculating what he does.

All these years he lived alone, aware of his aura illuminating many lives, and yet had stopped caring about it – he turned into a loner, a man who developed OCD for his things, a fixed way of doing things , and today finally he will be having a companion.

Just drop it (whatsapp wisdom)

One of your grand aunts shared it and i felt you shld read

*Just Drop*

Once a Crow, holding on to a piece of meat was flying to find a place to sit & eat.

However, an Eagle started chasing it. The crow was anxious and was flying higher and higher, yet the eagle was after the poor crow.

Just then "Garuda" saw the plight and pain in the eyes of the crow.

Garuda being the bird of wisdom spoke "Oh my friend!! That eagle is not after you to kill you!! It is after that piece of meat that you are holding in your beak. Just drop it and see what will happen".

The crow followed the advice of Garuda and dropped the piece of meat, and there you go, the eagle flew towards the falling meat.

Garuda smiled and said "The Pain is only till you hold on to it. *Just Drop* it".

The crow bowed and said "I dropped this piece of meat, now, I can fly even higher".

Happiness increases productivity by 30 percent

Dear yooki-

Happiness is in the lens with which you see the world.
Evolution wise we are programmed to see threats and negatives as part of evolving in a jungle but you can rewire yourself by giving 2 mins to yourself every morning

Every morning (has to be done min 21 days in a row to rewire your brain)

- write 3 positive things you are grateful for- gradually ur brain will scan environment for positivity
- journal about one positive experience u had in past 24 hrs
- exercise - it releases endorphins
- meditate for 5 mins min (solves / prevents adhd)
- say one good thing to someone.
- find your tribe or gradually start making a circle of friends

Transient moments

There is something very beautiful and potent about transient moments.. fizz of a soda bottle, passing gaze of a stranger, stolen glances, arriving at an idea, an image or a brush stroke ... they make you realize that your heart is deeper than the deepest well you have seen, that you are not just a random stranger walking on the road but that somewhere you are connected to a whole, that you can cause a ripple in the cosmos, that your insignificance doesn't contain you, or you realize that any mould whether physical, mental or societal ever made, cannot contain your heart, your mind...that somewhere you can free yourself from the fabric of space and time and bounce and jump and even fly ... and the truth is that it's only in these moments you fully realize that you are alive and finally in these transient moments only you will live forever.

Goethe on the Psychology of Color and Emotion

YELLOW

This is the color nearest the light. It appears on the slightest mitigation of light, whether by semi-transparent mediums or faint reflection from white surfaces. In prismatic experiments it extends itself alone and widely in the light space, and while the two poles remain separated from each other, before it mixes with blue to produce green it is to be seen in its utmost purity and beauty. How the chemical yellow develops itself in and upon the white, has been circumstantially described in its proper place.

In its highest purity it always carries with it the nature of brightness, and has a serene, gay, softly exciting character.

State is agreeable and gladdening, and in its utmost power is serene and noble, it is, on the other hand, extremely liable to contamination, and produces a very disagreeable effect if it is sullied, or in some degree tends to the minus side. Thus, the color of sulphur, which inclines to green, has a something unpleasant in it.

When a yellow color is communicated to dull and coarse surfaces, such as common cloth, felt, or the like, on which it does not appear with full energy, the disagreeable effect alluded to is apparent. By a slight and scarcely perceptible change, the beautiful impression of fire and gold is transformed into one not undeserving the epithet foul; and the color of honour and joy reversed to that of ignominy and aversion. To this impression the yellow hats of bankrupts and the yellow circles on the mantles of Jews, may have owed their origin.

RED-YELLOW

As no color can be considered as stationary, so we can very easily augment yellow into reddish by condensing or darkening it. The color increases in energy, and appears in red-yellow more powerful and splendid.

All that we have said of yellow is applicable here, in a higher degree. The red-yellow gives an impression of warmth and gladness, since it represents the hue of the intenser glow of fire.

YELLOW-RED

As pure yellow passes very easily to red-yellow, so the deepening of this last to yellow-red is not to be arrested. The agreeable, cheerful sensation which red-yellow excites increases to an intolerably powerful impression in bright yellow-red.

The active side is here in its highest energy, and it is not to be wondered at that impetuous, robust, uneducated men, should be especially pleased with this color. Among savage nations the inclination for it has been universally remarkedy and when children, left to themselves, begin to use tints, they never spare vermilion and minium.

In looking steadfastly at a perfectly yellow-red surface, the color seems actually to penetrate the organ. It produces an extreme excitement, and still acts thus when somewhat darkened. A yellow-red cloth disturbs and enrages animals. I have known men of education to whom its effect was intolerable if they chanced to see a person dressed in a scarlet cloak on a grey, cloudy day.

The colors on the minus side are blue, red-blue, and blue-red. They produce a restless, susceptible, anxious impression.

BLUE

As yellow is always accompanied with light, so it may be said that blue still brings a principle of darkness with it.

This color has a peculiar and almost indescribable effect on the eye. As a hue it is powerful — but it is on the negative side, and in its highest purity is, as it were, a stimulating negation. Its appearance, then, is a kind of contradiction between excitement and repose.

As the upper sky and distant mountains appear blue, so a blue surface seems to retire from us.

But as we readily follow an agreeable object that flies from us, so we love to contemplate blue — not because it advances to us, but because it draws us after it.

Blue gives us an impression of cold, and thus, again, reminds us of shade. We have before spoken of its affinity with black.

Rooms which are hung with pure blue, appear in some degree larger, but at the same time empty and cold.

The appearance of objects seen through a blue glass is gloomy and melancholy.

When blue partakes in some degree of the plus side, the effect is not disagreeable. Sea-green is rather a pleasing color.

RED-BLUE

We found yellow very soon tending to the intense state, and we observe the same progression in blue.

Blue deepens very mildly into red, and thus acquires a somewhat active character, although it is on the passive side. Its exciting power is, however, of a different kind from that of the red-yellow. It may be said to disturb, rather than enliven.

As augmentation itself is not to be arrested, so we feel an inclination to follow the progress of the color, not, however, as in the case of the red-yellow, to see it still increase in the active sense, but to find a point to rest in.

In a very attenuated state, this color is known to us under the name of lilac; but even in this degree it has a something lively without gladness.

BLUE-RED

This unquiet feeling increases as the hue progresses, and it may be safely assumed, that a carpet of a perfectly pure deep blue-red would be intolerable. On this account, when it is used for dress, ribbons, or other ornaments, it is employed in a very attenuated and light state, and thus displays its character as above defined, in a peculiarly attractive manner.

As the higher dignitaries of the church have appropriated this unquiet color to themselves, we may venture to say that it unceasingly aspires to the cardinal's red through the restless degrees of a still impatient progression.

RED

Whoever is acquainted with the prismatic origin of red will not think it paradoxical if we assert that this color partly actu, partly potentia, includes all the other colors.

We have remarked a constant progress or augmentation in yellow and blue, and seen what impressions were produced by the various states; hence it may naturally be inferred that now, in the junction of the deepened extremes a feeling of satisfaction must succeed ; and thus, in physical phenomena, this highest of all appearances of color arises from the junction of two contrasted extremes which have gradually prepared themselves for a union.

As a pigment, on the other hand, it presents itself to us already formed, and is most perfect as a hue in cochineal ; a substance which, however, by chemical action may be made to tend to the plus or the minus side, and may be considered to have attained the central point in the best carmine.

The effect of this color is as peculiar as its nature. It conveys an impression of gravity and dignity, and at the same time of grace and attractiveness. The first in its dark deep state, the latter in its light attenuated tint; and thus the dignity of age and the amiableness of youth may adorn itself with degrees of the same hue.

History relates many instances of the jealousy of sovereigns with regard to the quality of red. Surrounding accompaniments of this color have always a grave and magnificent effect. The red glass exhibits a bright landscape in so dreadful a hue as to inspire sentiments of awe.

GREEN

If yellow and blue, which we consider as the most fundamental and simple colors, are united as they first appear, in the first state of their action, the color which we call green is the result.

The eye experiences a distinctly grateful impression from this color. If the two elementary colors are mixed in perfect equality so that neither predominates, the eye and the mind repose on the result of this junction as upon a simple color. The beholder has neither the wish nor the power to imagine a state beyond it. Hence for rooms to live in constantly, the green color is most generally selected.

Ray bradbury illustrated man

Dear yooki,

I really liked his story kaleidoscope from his book thr illustrated man - its about a bunch of astronauts that went swirling away in all directions after their rocket blew up. They are all falling in different direction and one of them is miserable about his empty life.

Its just too poignant. And revealing. Maybe for scifi authors it is important to have their philosophy in place so they can write their magic better.

Why representation matters

I think representation matters not just for validation or for acknowledgement of minority (whether it be women or gays or trans or people of color), but it matters because it also shapes our society.

Making this film has been so tough and I always pretend that it is easy to have a career but also be a working mother in a nuclear set up and deal with interrupted sleeps and creative challenges but its not and there are times you just give up. Like though I try to be particular with my happiness and fitness last 15 days I have not taken any care at all.

And its such a quicksand - you stop for a week and it takes all the more efforts to get back on your feet.

The other is challenges for travel for work. In mumbai everything is 3 hours to and fro combined for me. And to have any participation at work I have to do so many mental maths and planning.

And then I wonder if other single or married men have those challenges. I am sure they would have but just when I compare the flexibility that is available to your dad and me I know its different.
I want to be a trailblazer but I also want other women to know that they can look uncool - cleaning their kids diapers, breast feed and still make their first film. I want other investors to know and believe when they see a sort of overweight faded beauty kinda woman walk to them asking for work after haven't being able to work for last 2 years because they were raising a tiny human, they better fucking pay up, I want other young coworkers to know that if your director doesn't fit the mythology of a sexy brooding male director but is a clumsy mom figuring her way through this darkness you better realize that the project you are working on is the best fucking project of your life.

I want my representation because through me and many such women like me - other women would know they can go beyond surviving. They can win.

The Book of Games

In 1238, the medieval Spanish ruler Alfonso X of Castile published a tome called Libro de los Juegos,  or The Book of Games. It consisted of 97 parchment pages, many with beautiful color illustrations, and contains the earliest descriptions of games such as chess, dice, and backgammon.

Alfonso went on to classify games into three categories: games that are played on horseback, games played dismounted (such as fencing and wrestling), and games played seated. He divided this third category even further into games that rely on the brain, games of chance, and games that rely on both.

In making these distinctions, Alfonso is the unofficial founder of a field of science known as ludology—the study of games.

These games can be modeled as mathematical entities that lend themselves to computational study. This is based on the idea that games are composed of units of information called ludemes, such as a throw of the dice or the distinctively skewed shape of a knight's move in chess.

Ludemes are equivalent to genes in living things or memes as elements of cultural inheritance. They can be transmitted from one game to another, or they may die, never to be seen again. But a key is that they can be combined into bigger edifices that form games themselves.
