Aaron Sorkin master class and other tips on dialogue

Dialogues:
Dialogues should be like music - cadence, tone, volume. Rhythm.
It is not written like people talk but it is imitated the way people talk
But at the same time don't make them sound like they are on TV or play
First think of the dialogue - walk - think through the whole thing..Thinking while walking helps direst your thoughts. First think, make notes. Think again You know when you will be ready to write.
After writing -add idiosyncrasies , add nuances, false starts, remove extra bits of info

After writing read it out loud and see if it works..enact..never repeat an info.

Also for comedy - make people read it at 1.5 pace.

It should be faster and audience should feel like leaning in to understand what you are writing. Analyze the dialogues of first scene of a movie called social network.

Putting personal detail in every scene

I think in a good film - every scene prob should have LCD - laughter cry or drama but it should also have a P - a unique personal detail.
It could be anything - a man using an Asthama machine or eating a tic tac toe, or a child walking in father's shoe, or henna colour in hair but you need to add these personal details... and you need to revisit every prop - colour of ink on the paper - or brand of the pen- don't make it generic - make it specific ...
btw today you went to a mela

On Being a Lion King and Buddhism

Those who make steady efforts are full of hope. And hope, in turn, arises from steady efforts.

I feel when you are really stuck in life bring about a inner revolution. Start with thought and follow it with deeds and words. You could be stuck anywhere, in a challenging project or in a personal relationship. Bring about change in your thoughts first and then don't be shy of taking those steps and speaking those words with courage. Courage, hard work and wisdom can conquer unconquered mountains.

Also remember to eliminate these three things from your body- anger, greed and stupidity.
And replace them with compassion, wisdom, courage and passion.
You can chant om or the lotus sutra - nam myoho renge kyo - maybe at this point you might feel they are crutches or tools of empowerment. Whatever you feel remember that you are a Lion King and you will - with self belief and belief in the world, will overcome any obstacle you are facing.
Align the world towards your inner goal. Be at peace. And as you remember daddy once told me when I was very worried and not myself - he said people can do everything to you but they cannot make you feel a certain way. Keep that power with yourself. Never give that power to anyone.
So anyways- I wanted to log this as these are some of the things I think about in life. I had lost touch with these values and thanks to Meghna masi I am getting back in touch with them.

Love you. Btw look at you my love.
